TUNREN

Tool for tunnel design

TUNREN is a tool for tunnel design including 2 modules:

  • Lateral support: Convergence/Confinement method
  • Tunnel face behavior: Extrusion method (developped by Mr Henry WONG, license CNRS-ENTPE)
The program exists in english language (but the manual is available in french only at the moment).

Lateral support:

CONVERGENCE/CONFINEMENT method Classical AFTES methods, taking into account different support types (concrete, arches, bolts).
TUNREN proposes 3 methods to determine the deconfinement ratio 1D:
  • Similarity of CORBETTA
  • Similarity of PANET
  • Implicit classic

Tunnel face:

EXTRUSION method developped by Mr Henry WONG (license CNRS-ENTPE)
Stress-strains analytical method allowing the evaluation of extrusion displacements and of the tunnel face stability:
  • without reinforcements;
  • with longitudinal bolts;
  • with a face confining pressure (when using TBM).
Provided results include:
  • face displacements;
  • plastic radii for soil and bolts;
  • tractions in bolts;
  • principal stresses in the soil.
A "c-phi reduction" calculation makes it possible to evaluate a safety factor with respect to the tunnel face stability.

Key points of TUNREN

  • user-friendly interface (Windows©), for data input and for result analysis (graphical displays).
  • numerous wizards: safey factors, concrete moduli, material database...
